Founder- Sam Ellis
Sam established Rapid Descent in 2021, building on over 16 years of paddling experience, including 13 years spent coaching and working within the outdoor industry. His vision is to provide high-quality coaching and guided adventures that are accessible to everyone, regardless of experience level.
Sam holds multiple Paddle UK Coaching and Safety qualifications and brings extensive expertise in PPE safety inspection, risk assessment, and operational procedures. His personal paddling adventures have taken him across the UK and internationally to destinations such as the French Alps, Nepal, Malaysia, and Canada. A passionate outdoorsman, Sam also spent two years living in the Canadian Rockies, where he immersed himself in snowboarding, skiing, climbing, an of course kayaking!
When Sam isn’t taking the lead himself, you’ll be lead by one of our handpicked local professionals—each selected for their depth of experience and in-depth knowledge of the area.
Having grown up taking on any job to fund his kayaking addiction, Sam understands how cost can be a barrier to participation. At Rapid Descent, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to experience the outdoors. If our pricing is outside your budget, please don’t hesitate to get in touch—we’re happy to explore options. We also offer a Young Leaders Programme specifically for individuals aged 16–25, aimed at supporting the next generation of outdoor professionals.

TESTIMONIALS
This was an amazing trip - tranquil, exhilarating and challenging at different times. Never a dull moment, with a fantastic guide and fellow canoeists. We did everything a canoe could do - except capsizing, but I was happy with that! The food was delicious and well balanced with lots of vegetables and protein. I highly recommend this trip, and especially Sam as our guide and chef 👍
